Sunny conditions don't prevent anglers from having success on Carrowmore

Despite the exceptional warm and sunny weather, anglers on Carrowmore Lake enjoyed good fishing for most of the week. Good numbers of salmon were caught with the majority being released. Some of the lucky anglers included P. Beirne, L. Mitchell., F.Duncalf, R. Murphy, V.Rigney and J. Martin. Best flies were Green Peter, Claret Dabbler and various Bumble patterns. The first sea trout have also started to run and exciting fishing is expected in the coming weeks.
Please note that Carrowmore Lake is a Brown Tag Fishery and that the Owenmore River is “Catch & Release”! For fishing contact Seamus Henry on +353 (0)97 83487 or visit www.bangorerrisangling.com

South Shore's may day in Kilcoole

South Shore Sea Angling Club report on their recent match at Kilcoole. Paul Mason has all the news…
21 May: After a blistering hot day on Saturday with lovely sunshine Sunday turned out to be more like winter for South Shore’s fifth leg of the master Angler league. Southerly wind had a good chop on the murky turblent sea. With biggish tides it was expected to be difficult to fish and hold bottom. Fortunately the sea was clean of weed which made it very pleasant and easy on the body.
flats
First casts seen a spatter of fish encroach the beach as the tide eased on the north run. Fishing was slow during the turn of the tide with whiting of diminitive size filling score cards. As the tide started to run South and empty out the Irish sea fishing was expected to pick up but unfortunately it never reached the fishy heights of our dreams.

Mayo Anglers enjoy day's fishing in Killala Bay

Donal Kennedy reports
A party of anglers from Co. Mayo set out early on Saturday morning 27th May for a day’s fishing in Killala Bay. The day  was  dry with moderate to fresh winds from the north east. The first couple of drifts produced coalfish and some nice pollack and, as the day moved on more  pollack and coalfish were caught together with a few mackerel which were scarce enough.  During the second half of the day, drifts over sandy ground produced good numbers of flat fish and some ray. However, one angler of the party will definitely remember the day out on Killala Bay catching his first ever cuckoo ray which was returned alive.

Spent Gnat & Dry Buzzer do the trick on Lough Arrow

Mayflies are still hatching in good numbers on Lough Arrow and anglers reported excellent fishing over the past week. However, wet fly fishing hasn’t been as successful as in previous weeks. The majority of the fish have been taken on  spent gnat and dry buzzer.

Summer weather sees bass fishing improve in Kerry

Sea Bass Hunter Tomasz Eckert had some pretty slow bass fishing recently. The last three weeks of fishing produced just one bass per week. that was just three bass to a little over 60 cm. However, late last week he caught 5 nice fish and it suddenly felt like summer!

As usual Tomasz had his bass on a mix of lures, soft…

National Bass Programme

IFI has established a National Bass Programme to collect data on bass in order to provide scientific advice to support management and conservation of Ireland’s bass resource. Bass is Ireland’s only marine fish species which is managed for angling. The programme is being developed to determine the status of bass stocks and also to improve understanding of their ecology and biology in Ireland for the long-term sustainability of the species. Night session provides flash of success in Wet Cork

David Norman reports from West Cork where he is back on the shores chasing bass…

North Easterlies are the stuff of legend on the Striper Coast of America, but not so here on the South Coast of Ireland… especially when combined with Torrential Rain! I was pondering all this, alone in the dark and very content to be back out Bass Fishing again after the long and hard winter months that never seemed to end this year when the rod was nearly wrenched out of my hands as this 70cm+ beauty assaulted my Albie Snax lure in about a meter of water.

David Norman with his first good bass of 2018. #CPRsavesfish

First decent fish of the 2018 season released fit and healthy to attack again… by the time photos had been taken lightning had begun to flash all around me and I literally ran all the way back to the car to arrive sweaty and relieved to have avoided a lightning strike, but delighted to have landed an early season clonker !!

Anybody up for some Guided Bass Fishing or maybe a bespoke Bass Lure Fishing Workshop to tune up those Lure Fishing Skills on the stunning West Cork coast? If so please contact me

Jason & Mervyn with Jason’s winning 3lb 6oz fish

Keady and District Angling Club had an enjoyable day out at their first junior event of the new season recently. Fishing was poor but the craic was good as the juniors took the opportunity to explore the outdoors. Only one fish was caught to the rod of Jason which tipped the scales to 3lb 6oz so well done to him. We’ll be holding a few other junior events over the next few months.

North Longford Angling Club
