Please note: Sligo Anglers Association have closed their waters on the River Bonet from 1st September for salmon anglers upstream of Gortgarrigan bridge, Manorhamilton.

    Lough Gill

Gill is a large lough, nearly 6½ miles long from east to west and 2½ miles wide at its widest point. It lies about 3 miles east of Sligo and the R286 Dromahair-Sligo road runs close by the shore on the northern end and the R287 on the southern side. There is public access and parking at Inisfree, Sriff Bay, Aughamore and Hazelwood Bay. This lough holds brown trout and salmon. It gets a big run of spring salmon and anglers are out from opening day. Few loughs have a reputation for having salmon as the predominant angling species and this is one of them. Most of the fishing is done by trolling. February and March are regarded as good months and so also is May, but after that the salmon fishing is over for the season.

    Bonet River

The Bonet River rises north of Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim, at Glenade Lake. It flows south, past Manorhamilton, and then turns in a westerly direction, past Dromahair, and into the eastern end of Lough Gill.

The Bonet River is a good spring salmon and grilse fishery. Fishing is dependent on water levels.

The river has a number of privately owned fisheries and syndicate waters, details below.
