Luke Aston reports that the charter boat fishing in the Shannon Estuary and off the Clare coast is yielding good results already…

Octopus
A double shot of octopus (or is octopi?)

17/04 Had a good look around today and tried a few marks close in and about 3 miles off north of Loop Head, but fishing very quiet. Then headed out to the deeper reefs and got right into plenty of fish. Mostly handy pollack and Coalfish, but triple shots no problem. Finished up at anchor closer in but only a handy Ling and some octopus!!

The wind, drift and tangles did not spoil the day - good fishing
The wind, drift and tangles did not spoil the day – good fishing

18/04 Ten anglers on the boat added to a fast drift and a fresh breeze with plenty fish resulted in any amount of tangles. But everyone was smiling for the day.

cod
It’s great to report that the fishing is going so well this early in the season

19/04 Fishing is very good and lovely to see so early. Lots of Pollack again and up to 8lbs. Also some nice Cod to 5lb and whiting around the 2lb mark.

Go fishing…
