Peter Gleeson took a break from pursuing brown trout on Lough Derg to reprt on this pristine 16-acre lake at Ballinderry, North Tipperary, is renowned for it full-finned, hard fighting rainbow trout.

There is some excellent top-of-the-water action on the lake at present, with anglers reporting catches of over-wintered fish in the 3lbs to 4lbs range.

Fish are not only coming to the dry fly, according to the proprietor Pat Stack. Anglers fishing with buzzers on fast sinking lines are also catching plenty of trout.

The over-wintered trout in the lake are as natural looking and as hard fighting as those found in the wild and feed only on what the lake’s eco-system has to offer.

Pat says the lake, located in a splendid pastoral setting, is  the perfect venue for anglers looking for a bit of action when the Mayfly season finishes, or indeed at any time. You can contact Pat on 087-2756775.
