Joe Fitzharris reports on the McCarthy Cup fished on Lough O’Flynn…
Lake O’Flynn Angling Association held their confined club event, the McCarthy Cup on Sunday 25th August. The event was reasonably well supported and enthusiastically contested as usual on the day in fairly good angling conditions.
Fish were showing, they were not always easy to hook but most anglers got their chances on a day that returned a very popular winner in club chairperson Ronan Baggott with a nice fish of 2lb 14.0 oz. Fish were caught on a variety of fly patterns; Dabblers, Daddies, sedges etc, with Ronan’s Muddler Daddy coming up trumps on the day. We had a noticeable increase in interest from Junior participants which is most welcome and encouraging for the future. The best junior category was won by Brendan Murphy with a trout of 2lb 00.4 oz.

Result of McCarthy cup is as follows
- Ronan Baggott – 2lb 14.00 oz.
- Derek Madden – 2lb 08.2 oz.
- Marcus Kennedy – 2lb 02.6 oz.
Best Junior angler Brendan Murphy – 2lb 00.4 oz.
