Lough Derravaragh Angling association held the Gibson Daly brown trout competition on the 30th September 2012 and for the first time in recent years three of these competitors were juveniles.  Water levels within the lake had receded and weather conditions suited brown trout angling with a fresh westerly wind and occasional sunshine. The Daly Cup went to Gerry McCarty with a beautiful trout of just over the 2lb whilst Joe Keena took the Gibson trophy with a trout of 1½lb. Anglers also reported that they had returned undersized fish and lost others. Derravaragh is worth a visit before it closes on 12th October and anglers can fish dry daddies and sedge patterns if conditions suit. Fishing with a team of wet flies comprising of a claret dabblers, a bibio and a daddy would also be well worth a try.
