Midland Lakes & River Inny by Dermot Broughan, IFI Mullingar.

Introduction:

For the fourth week in a row it has been very difficult for angling.  Very heavy rain during the week has seen a lot of fresh water enter our lakes, and we are now seeing Owel even recover its normal water level.

Lough Ennell:

Moi Mateur with a 26.88 lb. pike from Lough Ennell

On Tuesday evening, a Polish angler Moi Mateur landed a pike that weighed in at 12 kgs, (26.88 lb).  This fish was returned to the water and Moi informed us that he has boated over 50 pike in the last 12 months.  Thomas Mac Evoy Portarlington, Co Laois had a nice 3½ lb trout on Tuesday evening fishing a Brown sedge.  Des McGee reported 5 fish caught over two outings on a red arsed green peter fly the best being 4 lbs.

Lough Glore:

The Lough Glore anglers held a pike competition on the lake on Sunday.  Seven anglers fished the competition with two fish weighed in.  The best fish was 2 lb. weighed in by Mick Flanagan.

It has been a slow week on Owel.  The fish have gone on the perch fry and are slow to feed on the surface.  The best results for the week were Kenny Kiernan with 8 fish on Thursday evening, best of which was 1¾, John Plunkett with 4 fish, best 1¾, and Emmet Stagg TD who had 4 fish on Sunday the best was 3 lb.

Lough Derravaragh:

There are no reports of fish being caught on Derravaragh this week. There were two boats out on Sunday and they never got a bite all day.
