Cashel Trout Fishery report by Marlene McLaughlin
It’s that time of year again when we will be running our annual competition at Cashel. For anyone who has never taken part before, this is not a day to be missed, with plenty of great catches, stories, refreshments and of course prizes especially Cashel Perpetual Cup. Anyone who is interested in taking part on this fun but challenging day please leave your name and deposit with Marlene or any member of staff at the weekend.
With the excellent crisp weather this weekend anglers were catching really well using assorted dries. Lavey’s Pearse Mc Gill banked five and released four back into the lake. Friends, George Lyttle, Robert Allen and Billy Rainey (Portadown and Banbridge) caught four for tea weighing 6 lb. 10 ozs. Young lads Nathan Donaghy, Sean Mc Gill and Stephen McLaughlin (Dungiven) all caught a trout each on their first visit to Cashel but they only took one home which was near the 2 lb. mark. Limavady’s Martin McClenaghan released three in a couple of hours. Derry’s Maurice Whiteman did extremely well catching and releasing twelve beauties which all took the dry fly. Danny Walker and Jim Russell (Newtownabbey) bagged two trout each for home which weighed 8 lb. exactly.
Well done to all!
