The Rye Water
Season 1st March – 30th September
(Pike fishing available on Rye Lake)
The Sheet of Water
Fishing on the Sheet of water has by and large been quite productive over the last two weeks with several anglers returning fish up to the 4 – 5lb mark. On colder and more miserable days the fish have understandably been dour but on milder ‘softer’ days fish have been feeding close to the surface.
While the usual flies have been working well (Goldheads, blobs, boobies etc) I was given a gift of my 1st ‘Snake fly’ by a visiting angler last week – Paul Kay. Paul waxed lyrical about the effectiveness of this particular pattern and I can’t wait to give it a go to see how it performs on our Rainbows.
For anyone visiting for the 1st time a floating or intermediate line and 4, 5 or 6 weight rod would be ideal at present on the fishery.
We also have a selection of rods and tackle available on the fishery for anyone who has not tried out fishing before, basic instruction which includes free tackle hire can be booked through Guest Relations at the hotel.
The cost of this instruction is €25 for a 6 hour fishing permit and €50 for a Ghillie / Guide who provides the instruction.
