Billy Downes of the Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers Association is expecting good fishing this weekend following yesterday’s flood…

The laune is now (02 August) at 3 feet on the gauge at Johnston’s and carrying a lot of colour from the Gweestin. There was quiet a flood on it yesterday with the gauge rading 3.5 and all sorts of debris including trees coming down with it.

Billy Cotter thinks that the Laune below the Gweestin especially will not be fishable today. But already this morning Beat 3 is in perfect order for all methods and should produce some excellent fishing we hope.

The flood is very welcome and coming just before a long weekend when the nets are off should make for some good fishing on all methods.

Having had a look at the weather forecast the river should be running clear by early tomorrow and in excellent order for all methods for the rest of the week and over the weekend.
