Michael Flanagan reports from Lough Lene:

It was a strange opening day on Lene and I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time when a few big Lene brownies came on the feed. The fish were in mint condition, and we had 2 fish weighing over 4lbs. On the troll opening day, Paul Moran, Mikie Kelly, and Natasha and Eddie Darby of Kinnegad also produced cracking Trout.  Conditions were quite good on opening day but Saturday and Sunday came cold and calm, and I relaxed Trolling small Lures with some success.

LENE OYSTERCATCHERS. Last Saturday while fishing Lene I heard some birds in the distance, which I taught sounded like Golden Plover. I scanned the skies to try and get a glimpse at the Birds, but not a sign. Suddenly a small flock of birds crossed my vision, and they were certainly unusual visitors to Lough Lene. They spent the day tipping around Lough Lene, and I managed to capture the flock as they chilled out on Connell’s Point. On Sunday morning there was not a sigh of our featured friends.
