The Rye Lake has also superb hatches of Iron Blues over the last few days and trout have been keenly feeding near the boathouse despite the unseasonably cold weather.

A group of 10 American anglers took to the lake last Friday and had 35 fish in 3 hours to 5lb.

While fishing from the bank is an option the best way to cover this water is from the hotel Sheelin boat – this can be arranged through the hotel.

A nice brownie from the Rye.

The Sheet of Water

The Sheet of Water has fished well in patches over the last two weeks.  With Alders now appearing the resident rainbows have been keen to feed at the surface.

Also worth considering while fishing this stretch of water are the more traditional rainbow flies – Fritz, Boobies and blobs.

It is an excellent spot to get some casting practice in as there is little fear of back casts becoming snagged etc and it is quite sheltered even in the most unfavourable of conditions.
