Padraic Kelly reports on the recent Edenderry Festival which was held last week on the Grand Canal near the town.

56 anglers fished the annual Edenderry Festival on the Grand Canal near the town with sections at Killeen, Toberdaly and Rhode. The fish were spawning several days just before the festival started but good canal weights of roach, bream, hybrids and occasional tench were taken at all sections.  Right up to the final day, the competition was very close and Stanley Martin Wigan narrowly beat Pat Bartley from Dublin by 1 lb. 4 oz to win the overall festival and €1700 plus pools money.  The top six anglers were:

1st  Danny Martin,  Wigan, UK     33 lb. 13 oz.

2nd  Pat Bartley, Dublin                 32 lb.  9 oz.

3rd  Dave Trafford, Preston, UK      30 lb.  6 oz.

4th  Paul Kelly, Edenderry              29 lb. 13 oz.

5th  Derek Wane, Bolton, UK          29 lb. 10 oz.

6th  John Easton, Liverpool, UK      26 lb.   8 oz.

The other trophy results run during the festival were The Ken Bamford Memorial Cup and the Tommy Young Memorial Cup was won by Paul Kelly.   The John Kane Memorial Cup for the winning team were Stanley Martin, Pat Bartley, and Martin Linehan.
