Dermot Page reports from Rathcon Lake Fishery:

The 2nd qualifier of the winter league has just finished. A total of 65 fish were landed which is a record for a January heat. 20 anglers fished the four hours. The first hour as usual was the most productive with a lot of fish caught at the dam and off pegs 17 and 19. Black and Green snakes fished deep and fast seemed to be the best method. The biggest fish of the day at 61cm went to Tony McGrave. The top five qualify for the final in March. The next qualifier is on February 15th. Many thanks to Southside Angling for sponsoring a prize.

Go fishing…

Rathcon Lake is 8.5 acres and is stocked with top quality rainbow trout. The lake is fly fishing only and designed to allow maximum fishing so that 90% of the water can be covered. The average depth is 10ft with deep holes of up to 20ft in places. The fishery is open all year round and is home to a wide range of fly life, in particular buzzers, sedges, hawthorn and daddylonglegs, all providing excellent dry fly fishing, especially in the summer evenings.
