Rob Love is looking forward to the forecasted change in weather that should see angling improve in the coming days…

Rainbow
Denis with a fine rainbow from the Sheet of Water

Cloud is something Anthony Rochford and his fishing buddy Denis could have done with a little bit of at Carton House last Saturday as the clear skies coupled with a stiff north easterly made conditions very challenging indeed. The good natured pair started by targeting the rainbows on the Sheet of Water where despite covering the water well the fishing remained very slow. Before we left to try our luck on the Rye Lake Anthony had lost a decent fish and Denis returned another – this despite the fact that when he was playing it a rather angry swan attacked it for all he was worth – it was quite a spectacle & something we had never seen before. Perhaps it was suffering from sunstroke! Although Denis’s theory that it probably thought the fish was a mink – with all the splashing around in the water seemed more plausible.

Unfortunately fishing on the Rye Lake mirrored what had gone before and again having covered the water well the fishing was slow although Denis did have a few hits from the resident pike to his lure including one sizeable fish which stuck for a couple of seconds but agonisingly escaped.
Also out on the Rye Lake a few days beforehand were the lovely couple Suzanne and David Byers. Newcomers to fishing, they didn’t let the chilly day and the slow action on the lake dampen their spirits. Again cloud was at a premium and the dreaded easterly was blowing hard but that didn’t stop them from catching a few rainbows when we changed venue to the Sheet of Water. Their enthusiasm and excitement when they had a fish on was fantastic to behold – especially Suzanne’s – she caught the biggest fish (sorry David!).
