Seamus Hartigan, manager at the Galway Fishery reports:

The first salmon of the season was grassed today on Galway Weir by local angler Dave Lenihan. The fresh run fish was taken in Jimmy’s Pool ( Weir Pool) on shrimp at 1.00pm, and tipped the scales at 3.33kg (7.5lbs). Water levels had  dropped in recent days with two sluice gates closed, giving decent conditions at the Weir Pool. Despite the  clear water conditions  levels remain high, with 14 sluice gates open  on the Weir. Hopefully after the on-going  spell of settled weather, levels will continue to drop  in the coming weeks!
