In the Cornamona area Richard Molloy of Ballard Shore Boat Hire & Self Catering (087-2879339) reports of a visiting Swiss group of anglers whom had excellent fishing for their trip both trolling and wet fly fishing with one of the group saying that its the best fishing they have had in many years as the group are regular visitors to the Corrib.

On Saturday, Aidan Feeney from Derry had a 9lb brown trout on a trolled a roach bait. The fish was released. Fishing in calm, bright conditions Aidan had 4 takes on the day but just 1 fish landed.

On Sunday last The Oughterard Anglers & Boatmans Association hosted The Bartley McCauley Cup in which 39 anglers participated and 39 trout were weighed in.1st Place went to Willie Molloy Oughterard with a catch of three trout for 8.8lbs, 2nd Place went to Mike Faherty Oughterard also with three trout weighing 6.8lbs and 3rd Place went Mikey Molloy Oughterard with four trout weighing 5.8lbs. Heaviest fish on the day went to Johnny Flaherty of Renvyle with an excellent trout weighing 4.8Lbs.

Also in the Oughterard area Basil Sheilds of Ardnasillagh Lodge (086-0869758) reports of duckfly hatches tapering off and hatches in isolated areas with it being the lull period between the duckfly and olives. David Irwin from Co Down had excellent fishing catching eight fish for two days with the best fish being 3.4lbs all caught on buzzer and all sportingly released. On Saturday last Shannon angler Glenn O Connell had one fish for his days angling and also on Saturday last Gort angler Coleman Counihan had one fish with a trout weighing 3.8lbs.

On Sunday last The Annaghdown Angling Club hosted The Freedom Cup in which 17 anglers faced tough weather conditions weighing in six trout.Top rod on the day went to Ronan Sweeney with 3 fish for 4.05 kgs and the best fish weighing 1.51 kgs,Second place went to Eamon O Brien with one fish 1.27 kgs & Third place went to Mike Hourigan 1.25 kgs. The Club expresses their thanks to The Nolan Family who sponsored the competition.

On Thursday last The Galway West Garda Angling Club held a competition on Lough Corrib which saw ten anglers catch nine trout for their day with the top three rods as follows.

Mick McGauran Loughrea 1st place with two fish weighing 4.8lbs, Seamus Kelly Oughterard 2nd place with three trout weighing 4.1Lbs, Paul Agnew Galway 3rd place with two trout weighing 3.1lbs.
