Last Sunday Lough Owel Trout Preservation Association fished the Clonhugh Cup, which is the last club fly fishing competition of the season. Plus on the same day the angler of the year prize is presented to the top Owel angler of the season.
Brendan Murray of Mullingar crowned a brilliant season on Owel by winning the Clonhugh Cup last Sunday with a fine trout of 1.300kg. Brendan also picked up the Angler Of the year prize which was presented in Tullaghan Angling Center by Chris McKeon Treasurer of L.O.T.P.A. and his son Ross who is competition captain of L.O.T.P.A..
Noel Farrar from Dublin finished 2nd in the Clonhugh Cup landing a trout of 1.200kg, with Mullingar angler Danny Cole 3rd with 1.180kg.
COMING UP ON OWEL
It’s not all over yet on Owel and the association will host the Leinster National qualifier on Saturday September 15th with an 10am start, and all rods in at Tullaghan at 6pm. Anglers from all many Leinster clubs will fish this event on Owel.
On Sunday October 7th the last fly-fishing competition takes place on Owel, and it’s the annual open fundraising competition with all proceeds going towards stocking Owel with quality trout.
The trout season will close on Friday October 12th, and we will have more news on the fundraising competition in the coming weeks.
