Mick Flanagan reports on the trout fishing at Lough Lene…

Local anglers John Dooner and pal Charlie Greville were trolling on Lene last week and had some savage rainbow trout on lures. John rattled the scales with a fine fish weighing over 6lbs. In recent weeks Lene has produced some huge rainbows averaging 5-6lbs in weight, and this are exception fish by any standards. Lough Lene is club controlled and day tickets are available in the daybreak shop in Collinstown.

In the coming weeks I will have news on the Peter fly angling competitions coming up in July and August on Lene. Also on Lene Ballinalee Angler Seamus Cahill had a super rainbow from Lough Lene in North Westmeath. Fishing with pal John Kirwin they boated a 6lbs 9oz cracker, which took a Blue & Silver Mepps lure.
