Paul McLaughlin reports on the Naas and District Anglers Intermediate Teams fished on Sunday…
30 September: Our 6th NADA INTERMEDIATE TEAMS event took place on Lough Muckno this weekend.
One of the highlights of the year is this event as it comes from the core ethos of our club, the development of anglers. It gives anglers of intermediate standard the opportunity to fish on one of the best match venues in Ireland against anglers of similar ability.
12 teams of 4 turned up for the draw and with water levels extremely high it was expected that the fish that had been living at 5m all summer may well have moved.
After a team draw everyone headed for their sections on Concra Wood and white island with fishing from the standard 12/5.
Fishing was mixed with those getting the tactics right and fishing for the larger fish received their rewards at the scales. Bream to 5lb were dotted around the sections along with quantities of small roach for those that persisted on the short lines.
Assembly back at the old coach in and Peter Walsh did the tallying after providing excellent bait in the morning. It was evident immediately that there was a run away winner and the rest would be close.
Well done to Iascaire A on an unbeatable 7 points with 3 section wins. In second place was go-catch on 15 points and 3rd was Iascaire B taking it from the host team on a weight countback.
Many thanks to everyone that helped with the organisation from the draw to the weigh ins and tallying. To Lough muckno match group for loan of scales and organising access.
And most of all thanks to the anglers that made this event possible. They include the participants and their clubs but also the anglers that excluded themselves to let the guys compete at their level.
Roll on next year.
Paul McLoughlin.
