Lakelands Angling Ballinamore reports on the Ballinamore Angling Festival…
39 festival anglers took part in this years competition which kicked off with 60 anglers on the bank for the Ivan Price Open match last Sunday. After a slow start the sections slowly woke up with the introduction of feed providing the opportunity for some good fishing. In total contrast to last year it was a very wet week, chilly too at times and the wind got up on Friday making it difficult for all.
Congratulations to Paul who had his sight on the match after a boost from Connolly’s Shore on Wednesday. But the competition was tight with Bob Nudd last years winner, very close behind. However, it was Cavan angler Wayne Fuller who came through to take the runner-up position on the final day with 11.850kg from Connolly’s Shore and Kent’s Barry Chapman holding on to his 3rd place after a tough day on Cully’s Shore. Bob finished in 4th position with Francis McGoldrick in 5th place.

The competition sponsored by Waterways Ireland is played out on a variety of venues in the local area. #irelandshiddenheartlands The Ballinamore Tourist Office facilitates the draw, local landowners provide transportation funded by Inland Fisheries Ireland and Shortts Heritage Bar is the venue for the presentation.
Whilst there was plenty of competition on the bank it was refreshing to see the travelling anglers making the most of their holiday; plenty of fun on the shore where new friends are made every year. Thank you to all who took part and to club members for facilitating the event.
