The September edition of the Belturbet Angling Festival took place last week. The five day event, organised by Belturbet Angling and Conservation Club a member of the NCFFI, was fished in 5 man sections on local venues Glasshouse, Tullyguide, Derreskit and Lower Derries. Water levels were high and fish in the shallow water after a good few days of heavy rainfall. Whilst the pole dominated the larger weights in the competition were skimmers and bream caught on the tip.
John Potters started the festival well with a bream catch on Tullyguide for a first days weight 18.950kg and led throughout to finish with 61.450 for a festival win. Second placed angler Tony Kersley had a mixed week fishing the feeder, bomb, pole and waggler for the runners-up weight of 56.750kg.

Results were as follows:
1st John Potters 61.450kg
2nd Tony Kersley 56.750kg
3rd Dave Stewart 49.450kg
4th Nicky Harrison 44.675kg
5th Dave Bass 44.350kg
Festival organiser Paul Lee would like to thank all those who took part in this week’s event, lower in numbers but high in quality and enjoyment. To the local landowners for access and accessibility to the pegs, to Ray and his staff at The Castle Sports Bar & lounge Belturbet and Irish Bait and Tackle Limited for their bait services.
