The following is the angling report for the Erriff for the period September 3rd – 12th.

Perfect water levels on the Erriff at present

We have had 51 salmon recorded for this period. A selection of the catches included Jim Wilson’s 2 salmon of 12lbs. and 3.5lbs released from the middle and upper square pool on Beat 9 on a half inch red and gold tube fly on the 3rd. On Friday 6th regular angler John Ryan released a fine 10lbs. salmon from the Low bank pool on Beat 4 using a Cascade. Seamus O’Neill released 3 grilse of 4lbs. , 5lbs. and 5lbs using a Collie dog tube from beats 5 and 7. William Cotter released 3 grilse of 5lbs each from the Willow pool on Beat 6 using a Willie Gunn tube and Cyril Biggins released 3 salmon of 4lbs., 5lbs. and 7.5lbs from beats 4, 6 and 8 using a Black shrimp fly. On Sunday 8th, regular visitor Jean-Francoise Calvar fished the Birch pool and Cattle pass on Beat 1 and had 2 salmon of 2.5lbs. and 5.2lbs. using the ”little black fly” as he calls it himself. Monday 9th Luke Drea and John Wilding also fished Beat 1 and released a grilse each of 3.5lbs. and 4lbs. from the Black river run using a Silver Stoat and Stoat’s Tail in size 12. On Thursday 12th, Paddy Donegan had 2 grilse of 5.5lbs. and 6lbs. from Beat 6 on a Conehead tube fly and Jean-Pierre Leroy released 2 wild salmon of 4lbs. and 10lbs. from Beat 7 on the ”little black fly”.

Fishing has been very good over the past 10 days helped by regular rainfall to keep the river topped up at a good fishing height. Prospects look good for the final few weeks of the season if anglers are thinking of wetting a line before the end of September.
