With the season in full swing Kit Dunne reports on a massive 70 Irish Specimen Fish recorded for May and June. The bulk of the fish are smooth hounds with many in double figures and the best so far reaching 17.5lb in weight.
The tope fishing has also begun, with a lot of southerly winds the best grounds were inaccessible for a short time; however, in recent trips plenty of tope have been landed. German visitor Mike Wheeler recorded the best tope to date with his 41lb, 162cm fish. Bullhuss, thornback ray & homelyn ray are also on the catch list.
Inshore, the species are also coming in with plenty of codling, dab, pollock, coalie, gurnard, a few conger and some small ling. The elusive black bream hasn’t shown up yet, however, conditions haven’t really suited so far.
We’re looking forward to our shark fishing from August to October and after an average of 7 sharks per trip last year we hope to do more this season. With only few dates left available in August and September you need to move fast if you want a date. Don’t forget our Free Customer Competitions are running again this year, €1000 plus in prizes.
