Dan O’Neill reports from Mount Juliet on the River Nore…
06 May: Water is still running slightly high but some trout anglers tried their luck along the stretch with great success. It was great to see the trout in good condition; healthy and in strong numbers. Looking back over the records, trout average size is up from last season and condition is also much better than this time last year.
Nymphs produced the majority of the trout on the fishery over the weekend. While a pink shrimp and olive nymphs were popular patterns, a peeping caddis claimed a few fish also,
Fish seem to be more active around the surface also with some decent trout showing there presence. It’s a lovely time of year to take note of what’s happening on and in the river, then watch how quickly it comes to life becoming a hive of activity. So much going on such as life cycles, food chains and of course angling.
