Bright sunshine especially in the later part of the week made angling difficult for trout anglers. Most anglers commented that fishing was tough going and as the week progressed it got more difficult. At the start of the week Peter Roche and Gary Binley had good fishing on Lough Cullin with approximately 15 trout to the boat. Fifty per cent were considered keepers. Best fishing was a drift from Garrison Island towards the railway bridge. These trout were mostly caught on wet Mayfly patterns and the Golden Olive Bumble. They also had 2 sea trout for just under a pound. All fish were released.
A party of anglers fishing on Lough Conn from Murphy’s Boat Hire caught a few trout but mostly encountered small trout, and naturally released all. A group of anglers in two boats fishing North Conn from Cloonamoyne Fishery had some good sport but 80% were small fish.
Twenty-eight keepers were reported from Lough Conn for the week. Poor weather conditions were reflected in the sparse fly life on the lakes.
Four salmon were reported caught trolling on Lough Conn for the week, two near the River Deel, one near Cloghans and one at Massbrook. Black and copper Tobys were the most popular lure.
