Kevin O’Boyle reports on the weeks fishing on Loughs Conn & Cullin:
Despite the windy cool weather, trout angling improved a little. Some Mayfly were seen hatching in sheltered bays and trout were taking them off the surface. All anglers that ventured out had some good results.
Paul Caslin, Ross and Peter Gray, Castlebar had some good fishing in Gallaghers Bay and Chain Island. They reported a lot of fish to the boat with over half of them to the measure. Successful flies included the Invicta, Green Peter and Claret Dabbler. They had 4 good trout estimated around 2 lbs and all fish were returned.
Stephen Browne, Cloghans and Francie White, Sligo had one of their best days of the season in Cloghans and the Brackwansha shore. They had numerous trout to the boat of which 6 were over 1.5 lbs. All fish were caught on wet green Mayflies and were all returned.
Peter Roche from Cloghans, also fished with Francie White the following days and had some good angling in a strong westerly breeze along Coleman Shallows, into Massbrook Bay and also in Castlehill Bay. They boated a lot of fish with over half to the measure. Their best fish for the day was 1.5 lbs to a green Mosley and all fish were returned.
