Donavin Brinklow reports on fishing on the Erriff during July. A wet month, in contrast to the previous two, saw frequent spates and plenty of salmon running the river. Anglers enjoyed very good sport at times, with fish caught almost every day of the month!

2 July
J. O’Neill landed a 1.5lbs sea trout and a 7lbs salmon in the Falls Pool and a 11lbs salmon in the Bridge Pool on Beat 9. J. Ryan landed a 6lbs and a 5lbs salmon in the Middle Garden Pool on Beat 9.

3 July
M. Downes landed a 5.5lbs salmon and L. Downes landed a 5lbs salmon in the in the Middle Garden Pool on a Cascade on Beat 9. C. O’Leary landed a 4lbs, 5lbs and a 8lbs salmon in the Quary Pool on Beat 2.

Go Fishing

The Erriff System is comprised of the Erriff River and the two small loughs of Tawnyard and Derrintin. The River Erriff is one of the premier salmon fishing rivers in Ireland. A spate river, it is characterised by lively streams and deep fish-holding pools. It has 8 miles of prime angling water, divided into 9 beats. Beats are un-crowded with only two rods on most and a maximum of 3 sometimes. Angling is rotated on a daily basis.
