4/10/23 Well the Currane anglers days are closing in fast with 8 days to go, as you can see in the last couple of days my reports are as slack as their lines, today is no exception. Wind WSW light followed by good cloud cover.
5/10/2023 Lough Currane was on the wild side with strong SW gusts up to 63km/h followed heavy rain early morning and throughout most of the day, so you can imagine my WhatsApple was all quiet.
6/10/2023 The big flood takes control after yesterday’s 36.9mm of rainfall, on that note we head for the wild Trout results, well I can say without any fear of contradiction that my WhatsApple was all quiet on all flies. Now we head to France for the Rugby World cup, lets hope Ireland take Scotland to the cleaners and Ireland haven’t bugs in their boots. Wind SSW veered S fresh to strong followed by gusts up to 50 km/h and followed by heavy cloud.
7/10/2023 Wild Trout Currane angler Mr. Adam Healy, C&R 14 Brown Trout and one Sea Trout on Saturday and finished his 2023 Currane Season on Sunday for a quick half an hour and C&R two Brown Trout with his Daughter, before pulling up the boat for the Winter. On a personal note, Adam’s catches just proves that the Currane Wild Trout fishing wasn’t as bad as I have been reporting? If you get my drift. Thankfully the same couldn’t be said for Ireland as they thrashed Scotland 36-14 in the 2023 rugby world cup this evening in the Stade de France in Paris, I will say one thing it certainly looks like they have a great cast, roll on Ireland. Wind SSE veered South light to fresh with good cloud cover.
8/10/2023 The Wild Trout Currane anglers were all quiet on this bright and sunny day and followed by a light Southerly light and variable wind.
9/10/2023 Another bright and warm day for the Currane Wild Trout anglers as they cast their flies for that elusive Wild Currane Trout and going by my WhatsApple the wild Trout were very elusive? Wind South veered SW light.
10/10/2023 The Wild Trout Currane anglers were all quiet today but personally in my opinion their flies and tries weren’t good enough. Now back to today’s action and yes, I have checked my phone, and all is quiet phone wise. Wind SW light and variable followed by thick fog at times.
11/10/2023 Another big flood today, the amount of rainfall I will give you the facts in tomorrow nights notes, staying with rainfall, there was 10mm of rainfall yesterday. Now we head out on to Lough Currane, a good few brown trout out caught on the drift and the odd decent sea trout caught also, one boat C&R 1 seatrout 1 junior and over 20 brownies around rabbit. Now to the backdate department, a lone Wild Trout angler, had some good fishing on the south side of the lake during the last week. Wind light ENE and variable.

Sea Trout – Catch and release only
Inland Fisheries Ireland wishes to remind anglers that the Conservation of Sea Trout (No.7 or Kerry District) Waterville Area Bye-Law No. 971 of 2019 remains in effect. This Bye-law prohibits the retention and possession of any sea trout (Salmo trutta L.) taken by any fishing engine or by rod and line in the Waterville area i.e. that part of the sea eastward of a line drawn from the most westerly point of Bolus Head to the most westerly point of Lamb’s Head and to all the waters discharging in to it.
The Bye-Law mainly affects seatrout fishing on :-
- the river Inny (Knockmoyle) and its tributaries
- the waters of the Waterville system, including the Waterville River, Lough Currane, the Cummeragh River and all their tributary rivers and lakes
- the waters of Ballinskelligs Bay
FLEKSI
A new online survey has been developed by IFI for the Currane catchment to gather anglers’ knowledge – the survey method called FLEKSI was developed by IFI to help give an insight into the status of the fishery. Currane Anglers are needed for Citizen Science survey to examine fish stocks
