Fluctuating water levels affecting angling on the Moy

Angling Report week ending 25-08-2024

Intermittent heavy rain kept water levels up on the Moy for the week. Water levels at Ballylahan fluctuated dramatically with a reading of 0.53 m on Monday morning 19th rising to 2.0 m on Friday 23rd and receding again to 1.2 m on Sunday 25th. Weather wise the past seven days have been wetter than normal over the country with three times the average rainfall or more in parts of the northwest. Knock Airport recorded the most rain with 94 mm recorded. The week ahead will be mixed with rain and showers with heavy falls expected again in the west. Overall, 157 salmon were reported caught for the week.

Moy Fishery

Two salmon were recorded this week on the Ridge Pool. A 4.5 lbs fish caught on the worm and a 3 lbs fish which was released.

Ballina Salmon Anglers.

A total of 66 salmon were reported caught this week with spinning working best with the majority weighing between 2 lbs and 5 lbs.  The heaviest fish of the week weighed 10 lbs. Wednesday was the best day of the week accounting for 18 of the total weeks catch.

Mount Falcon Estate

A total of 13 salmon caught with 6 taken and 7 released with weights ranging from 4 lbs to 8 lbs.

Knockmore Salmon Anglers

Kenneth reported 4 salmon caught on the worm and fly showing weights from 5 lbs to 6 lbs.

Attymass Angling Club

Kevin reported 2 salmon caught and taken for the week spinning.

 Coolcronan Fishery

Nick reported 1 salmon caught for the week. The fish was caught on the worm.

Byrnes Fishery

Roy reported 10 salmon caught this week with 4 caught on the worm, 3 on the prawn, 1 spinning and the remaining 2 released.

Gannon’s Fishery

Pat reported 16 salmon caught for the week of which 4 were returned.

The Foxford Fishery

Granville Nesbitt reported 7 salmon caught for the week with 5 taken and 2 released. Best weight for the week was 5.5 lbs and the fish was caught on the worm.

Reports were received of 3 salmon caught this week spinning in the Foxford town area with angling footfall being very low.

Foxford Salmon Anglers

Harry reported 27 salmon caught for the week, with some released. Foxford River Fest was very successful but unfortunately due to inclement weather the angling competitions had to be cancelled. The Water Keepers Trophy will be held on 28th September.

East Mayo Anglers Association

Kathleen reported 6 salmon caught for the week with 4 taken and 2 released. The heaviest fish for the week weighed 7 lbs and it was caught on the worm.
