Jamie Hosty in the Ballina office reports that heavy rain over the previous weekend produced a flood in the River Moy on Monday 12th August causing water levels at Ballylahan to peak at 1.9 m on Monday. Intermittent rain throughout the week caused water levels to fluctuate for the rest of the week impacting on angling and limiting angling activity on certain fisheries in the Moy. Above average rainfall for the time of year was also reported. Overall, 201 salmon were reported caught for the week.
Ballina Salmon Anglers.
Peter McHugh of Ballina Salmon Anglers reported good fishing with 83 fish reported caught for the week with all methods producing fish. 3 fish were caught on the fly, 15 on the worm with spinning accounting for the rest. Average weights were in the region of 2 lbs to 5 lbs. The heaviest fish of the week weighed 7 lbs.
Ballina Salmon Anglers held their annual juvenile fishing competition on Saturday 17th August. The competition was won by Micheal Aschmann with his first ever salmon weighing 5.5 lbs. Second prize went to Kelsey Cawley who caught a salmon weighing 3 lbs and third prize went to Sean O’Reilly who caught a sea trout.
Mount Falcon Estate
Mount Falcon reported 16 salmon caught of which 9 were released. Average weights of the fish were from 3 lbs to 5 lbs with the heaviest of the week weighing 7 lbs. The predominant method used was spinning.
Knockmore Salmon Anglers
Five salmon were reported caught for the week by Knockmore Salmon Anglers, mainly on the worm and weighing from 4 lbs to 6 lbs.
Attymass Angling Club
Three salmon were reported caught on Attymass for the week. Successful methods were the prawn and the worm. Weights were in the range of 4 lbs to 5 lbs.
Coolcronan Fishery
This week Nick reported that 1 salmon was taken on Coolcronan Fishery. The fish was caught on the worm and weighed 4.5 lbs.
Byrnes Fishery
Roy reported a total of 7 grilse caught for the week at Byrnes. All of the fish were taken spinning.
Gannon’s Fishery
This week Pat reported that 34 salmon were caught on Gannon’s fishery of which 5 were returned to the water. All fish were caught either spinning or on the fly. The average weight was 5 lbs with the heaviest of the week being 7 lbs.
The Foxford Fishery
Granville reported 6 salmon caught for the week on the Foxford Fishery. Both the spinner and the worm produced fish with the biggest fish of the week weighing 4.5lbs.
Foxford Salmon Anglers
Harry reported that angling activity was low this week similar to some of the other fisheries on the Moy due to high water levels. Notwithstanding that, 35 salmon were reported caught for the week by Foxford Salmon Anglers.

Cloongee Fishery
Cloongee saw 1 salmon reported caught for the week. The fish was caught on the fly and weighed 4 lbs.
East Mayo Anglers Association
A catch of 10 salmon was reported from East Mayo Anglers waters this week of which 9 were released back to the water. 1 fish was caught spinning with the rest being caught on the fly. Average weights were 3.5lbs with the biggest weighing 6lbs.
