The first leg of the new Munster Shore League competition was held at Cheekpoint last Sunday. The event was hosted by Rinnashark SAC and saw 54 competitors turn out in some very sunny weather. Big spring tides brought plenty of movement to the water, and there were fish moving right from ‘lines in’ at 12 o’clock. All anglers had fish on the day with species including bass, flounders, dabs, whiting, codling, eels, codling and rocking. Fish of the day went to Jim O’Brien who landed a super 61cm bass on his last cast!
Zone A was won by local angler Alan Mulcahy from Rinnashark SAC with 15 fish followed by James Ryan from New Ross & District SAC in second place with 11 fish.
Zone B was won by Stephen Glynn from Ballybrack SAC with 13 fish followed very closely in second place by Erin Furlong from Rinnashark also with 13 fish and Darren Ryan from Suir Estuary SAC close behind in third with 11 fish.
Zone C was won by Joe Aylward from Suir Estuary SAC with Shane Olden from Rebel County SAC in second followed closely in third by Donal Domeney from Cork Sea Anglers.
The ladies’ winner on the day was Fiona Ryan from West Cork and District SAC.
The Junior winner on the day was Mochara Fraher from Clashmore SAC
