Senan Stanley was on the water once again this week to try something new. Ever eager to try innovative approaches to Irish waters – in his latest YouTube video, Senan takes to a trout stream to try some BFS fishing.

BFS stands for Bait Finesse System. This system is made up of a baitcasting reel with a shallow lightweight spool and a light or ultralight action baitcaster rod. This setup allows the angler to effectively fish super lightweight lures in the 1g to 7g weight range, something that has not previously been possible with a traditional baitcasting setup.

Tiny trout can fight like bluefin tuna on a BFS setup, making catching 10 inchers a whole lot of fun in a small stream!

In this video, Senan shows us

  • How to effectively catch trout using BFS gear
  • Which ultralight lures work best for wild brown trout
  • Real-time catches in a crystal-clear river
  • Tips for fishing pressured or wild trout on finesse setups
