Edenderry Coarse Angling Club’s 2026 festival week produced five days of competitive fishing on the Grand Canal, with anglers taking part across both a Three-Day Festival and a Two-Day Festival.
Friday saw the Three-Day Festival draw to a close, and it produced some strong individual performances, with Jeff Morrison took the overall honours on the day with 14lb 11oz, followed by Gordon Houlibecq with 13lb.
In Section A, Donal McGuirk led the way with 12lb 4oz, ahead of Brian Kane on 7lb 2oz and Conor Browne on 6lb 7oz. Section B was won by Derek Wane with 12lb 11oz, with Tony Richardson second on 7lb 4oz and Paul Kelly third on 4lb 7oz. In Section C, Fred Lakin topped the section with 10lb 8oz, followed by Joe Piling on 8lb 10oz and overall festival winner Gal Charnock on 7lb 6oz.
In the overall standings, one angler dominated the Three-Day Festival this year (as he has in previous years), with Gal Charnock coming out on top with an excellent winning total of 40lb 2oz. His consistency across the event saw him finish well clear at the head of the field and secure the overall title. This year’s success adds to his wins in 2023 and 2024, making him a formidable competitor at the event.

Tony Richardson finished runner-up in the three-day event with 28lb 12oz, while Karl Unwin completed the top three with 27lb 12oz. Phil Walters was fourth overall with 25lb 11oz, just ahead of Derek Wane, who finished fifth on 25lb 3oz.
The Two-Day Festival finished up on Thursday and was won by Karl Unwin, who added to his strong week by taking top spot with a total of 16lb 4oz. Tony Richardson continued his excellent run of form, finishing second with 12lb 1oz, while Tommy Fairhurst took third place with 10lb 12oz. Brian Kane was fourth in the two-day standings with 10lb 2oz, followed by Gavin Charnock in fifth on 9lb 11oz and Richie Keegan in sixth with 8lb 6oz.

Overall, it was a very successful festival week for Edenderry Coarse Angling Club, with strong performances across both competitions and plenty of close battles throughout the sections. Well done to all the winners, framers and everyone who took part, and credit to the club and organisers for putting together another enjoyable week of match fishing.
