Tackling big waters can be quite daunting especially if you have never fished them before. That is why some of the smaller waters offer the better chance of a few fish especially when fishing with younger members of the family. Smiths lake in Castleblayney is one such water and although it can be weedy in summer and swims are limited a few fish can be taken early in the year on feeder. The lake had depths from 2m to 10m and contains lots of small fish. There are a few banks of weed in the lake which are not visible in the early season so make sure you locate them before settling on your swim. For a few hours fishing it can provide a bit of sport. Les Harris in Lakeside Angling in Castleblayney can provide up to date information on all of the local waters.
