Donal Kennedy, skipper of the Leah, reported on two terrific days fishing in Killala Bay. On July 24th & 25th, a party of anglers from Larne set out to fish Killala Bay. The weather was excellent and the sea was calm . . .everything was set for two great days of fishing!
The group caught a phenomenal 19 species over the two days including ling up to 6 lbs., cod up to 7 lbs. and pollack up to 12 lbs. But what made this outing so special were the many species of ray that were caught and put back alive! The anglers had thornback, homelyn, blonde, cuckoo and small eyed ray! They also caught and released two specimen thornback ray weighing 23 lbs. and 20 lbs.

The Peter fishing on Lough Arrow is still in full swing with anglers reporting good evening action fishing sedges.
Peter Dunne had 4 trout for the week, best at 3.5 lbs., while Francie White caught two, heaviest 3 lbs. However, it was Simon Steel who had one of the best fish of the week, a fine 4 lbs. trout. Simon’s trout took a G &H Sedge. Other successful anglers included Gerry Martin with 2 trout for 2.25 lbs. and 2.5 lbs., Brian Hargadon with a two pounder and UK visitor, Hector Pearson who also boated a 2 lbs. trout.
Jim Henry and Ricky Fabozzi enjoyed excellent sea trout fishing on Glencar Lake during the week. The two anglers boated several sea trout including two very nice fish weighing 3.5 lbs. and 3.25 lbs. respectively. They also had two salmon at 7 lbs. and 5 lbs. Most successful flies were Green Peter and a yellow canary mayfly pattern fished on slow intermediate or floating lines

Made himself the nicest birthday present: 15 year old Cian O’Bourke with his first ever salmon!
Yet another successful week for anglers on the Moy system, with 945 salmon reported, bringing the yearly total, so far, to 4,735. After a big flood over the previous weekend, angling peaked during the first half of the week resulting in very good fishing conditions upstream of Ballina. Lures and the worm proved to be the most successful methods while water levels were on the high side.
Due to the higher water levels, angling on the Moy Fishery was rather slow this past week with only 15 salmon being caught. Amongst the successful anglers were Roy Taylor, UK, and Kevin Enright, Limerick, who both had a grilse on the Ridge Pool.
The Mount Falcon Fishery topped its good result of last week with a total of 69 salmon for the week. UK anglers Garry Perks & Mike Hornsby were particularly successful accounting for 32 fish (14 released) using all methods. The Coolcronan Fishery also saw its best week of the season with lady angler, Marie Anderson from the UK, catching a nice 6.5 lbs. grilse on the worm. At Gannon’s, Patrick Zollinker from Switzerland had two fish on bubble & fly, while John Logan, Dublin, landed a cracking ten pounder (on spinner) on the Foxford Fishery. Cian O’Bourke from Crossmolina certainly celebrated his 15th birthday catching his first ever salmon on the River Moy at Foxford. Cian was using bubble & fly and hooked his fish on an Orange & Gold Shrimp pattern.
There were also a lot of happy faces at the Cloongee Fisherywith over 60 salmon reported for the week. Amongst the successful anglers were Paul Burgess, UK and Jimmy Scotson from Monaghan who caught a fine 12.5 lbs. fish on spinner. German flyanglers, Lutz Koch and Kai Duscher, had great sport on the East Mayo water with several salmon up to 7.5 lbs., while fellow countryman, Lothar Waldeck, was also successful on East Mayo catching two grilse on spinner.

Eileen Carroll Murphy IFI reports from the River Bandon for the week ending 26th July 2015:
RIVER BANDON
The river fished well for the latter half of the week. The catches were mainly grilse but some larger salmon also including a 16.5lb fish taken on fly on the Bandon anglers’ water. Fresh Salmon and grilse ran the river on Friday and Saturday before the flood rose on Sunday. Prospects are good for the coming week as the river fines off after the flood.
One angler reported an 11lb salmon caught on the Bandon this week on a homemade salmon fly. www.farsondigitalwatercams.com/locations/bandon Eileen Carroll Murphy, IFI Macroom
The king of the east coast, skipper Kit Dunne is pleased with the mackerel off the Wickow coast.
Things are active and the fishing is busy. Kit set out this week with a bit of wreck fishing and then went in search of shark at 70-115 metres. The pollack and pouting obliged but the shark kept their distance. There was a nice drift, good rubby dubby trail, 25 mile off and the water was only 15 degrees. Patience is a virtue Kit so I guess you’ll have to wait another Month so.
In the meanwhile plenty of Tope, Huss and loads of Hounds kept the customers happy.

Congratulations to Steve Turner on winning leg 4 of the 2015 Galway Buccaneers SAC Master Boat Angler competition sponsored by Galway Bay Fishing. It was an overcast day with drizzle that cleared only as we passed the Foul Sound, with South Eastely winds that changed direction to the West combined with the slack enough tidal movements on the day made fishing difficult as the boat was tossed about.
With a stop to pick up mackerel, It was obvious that fishing was going to be good, mackerel were coming aboard the Maighdean Mara thick and fast and Dave Spokes picking up a non counting pollock as the competition hadn’t started.
Conor Graham was the first off the mark followed by Steve and Noel with pollock.
With both Noel and Conor picking up Cuckoo Wrasse it was anyone’s game.
A second drift in deeper water saw lines dropped 60+ meters, fish were coming aboard in numbers and good sizes, it was evident by the struggle Steve was having that it was a very good fish, after much panting and sweating the fish was landed and indeed it was a lunker of a Cod, weighing at 12lbs it was accompanied by a Pollock weighing in at around 7lbs. Steve managed to take the lead with constant double hits of Pollock and a couple more Cod, while Conor and Noel managed to land Ling, even though still a close game Steve was able to pull ahead with a Grey Gurnard and a Haddock, all the while Noel was also picking up species with Poor Cod and Pouting.
With winds slowly picking up we moved closer to the island for a bit of shelter and John managed to pick up a couple of Dogfish, around this time Eoin (non member) started to look less green and start fishing for about half an hour before we pulled up to Inis Oirr to sample the skipper Kevin MacGabhann’s brew which was being served on the island.
Over all 11 species were caught, these include Pollock, Coalfish, Cod, Haddock, Ling, Cuckoo Wrasse, Poor Cod, Pouting, Grey Gurnard, Lesser Spotted Dogfish and Mackerel.
Cheers !
Thanks as always to our Skipper Kevin MacGabhann for looking after us and Providing us with plent of variety (and beer). ~ The Commitee
Charterboat skipper Daryl Ewing of Sligo Boat Charters did what he does best this week – catch fish !.
He is pleased to tell us that the bay is full of mackeral at the moment. On Saturday Daryl was chaperoned by a big basking shark alongside the boat. That didn’t stop them catching a fine Ballan just short of specimen size. Later they went onto catch Ling and tope.
