There is still good sea trout action to be had on Glencar Lake! Ricky Fabozzi, Jim Henry and George Lindsay all enjoyed great sea trout fishing during the week with fish up to 1.5 lbs. Best flies were Green Peter and Teal & Yellow.
Other successful anglers included Dominic and Eoghin Concannon from Derry who had 3 lovely sea trout on the fly; best at 2.5 lbs. John Davis from Grange, Co. Sligo, caught a nice 8 lbs. salmon spinning with a B&S Toby.
Fishing on Glencar Lake is managed by the Sligo Anglers Association, for details contact [email protected].

Sue and Vin Heron returned to their old stomping ground in Cork Harbour for their annual fishing vacation with Eire Bass guide Richie Ryan. The weather was not kind to our angling enthusiasts this year making life difficult for both anglers and guide.
A nice Birthday gift for Vin Heron….
Vin celebrated his 70 th birthday during their stay so it was important that a photo of a bass should be part of the package. Seeing as Sue out fished Vin on the last day of their trip last year, it was only fitting that Vin should be the one to shine on this occasion. A few bass fell to Vin’s various lures and the photo opportunity eventually materialised. A return visit is on the cards for the Herons next year with salmon also on the menu I’m told.
The 2nd International Sea Trout Symposium will take place in Dundalk, Ireland from 20th– 22nd October 2015.
Targeted at scientists, managers and other fishery stakeholder interests in the public and private sectors, the central aim is to promote the wider application of an evidence-based approach to the future management and regulation of the sea trout and to ensure that its often very special needs become fully integrated into catchment management plans and environmental impact assessments.

Small boat anglers out of Cobh have had some great fishing outside Cork Harbour recently as a result of the settle conditions. Many of the boats have been after blue sharks (and anything else they fancied while on the water). Jim Clohessy was out with his Team Skua members Rob and Gavin. They had some beautiful sharks to the boat along with some lovely red gurnards and pollack.

Boats in the Bella Vista fleet had good fishing too, rays, bass, pollack and more being caught regularly. They are also seeing good numbers of shark landed and photographed. One fish they had was not brought onboard for a photo though. Despite being well practised in landing and safely releasing sharks from small boats Dirk Wolthuis opted to release the biggest shark to the Bella Vista fleet this season at the side of the boat. When confronted by the 3m blue he knew he didn’t want to share deck space with that many teeth.
This big blue was let go at the side of the boat
Charter boats too are reporting good fishing. James Linehan on the Deora De has also been getting good numbers of shark as well as some good days of ground fishing.
Tagged and ready to go…
The 49th Cobh Internation Deep Sea Angling Festival is under way at the moment. The competition finishes up tomorrow evening. Good luck to the competitors and wee look forward to bringing you the full results on Monday.

Anglers fishing with Courtmacsherry Anglinghave been getting amongst some good blue sharks this week. Just yesterday they had 6 big blues to over 2m on the Lady Patricia, while those on the Lady Louise had good conger to 15kg and plenty of pollack. Skate, good sized cod, bass and more have been coming to the boat in recent days.
There have shark caught almost daily off Courtmacsherry. Catch of Week goes to MArk Gannon’s anglers for their 2m plus fish caught yesterday
Heading west towards Union Hall, the two boats in the Irish Deep Sea Charter fleet, Boy Scottand Rod’n’Reelhave had great cod and pollack fishing over the last few days despite the huge tides. They tell us that now that the weather has settled for a little while they expect this ground fishing to continue as the tides drop back.
Chunky cod
Further near Castletownsend, Tom Collins on Loch an Iasc showed that he can produce the goods under pressure when he got blue shark for his crew while fishing for a Polish TV show about angling in Ireland. At the Baltimore Angling Festival, Tom’s boat took had the biggest fish landed over the 4 days. These two pictures are of the same fish and show how fish can look much bigger or smaller depending on the angle etc of the photo.
