Rivers in Kerry are badly need a flood with salmon arriving. There was one salmon caught on the Roughty weighing approximately 5lb by a Cork angler.
On Lough Currane there were 8 salmon for the week with some sea trout also caught. Best of the sea trout was approximately 4lb and returned due to C+R regulations.

The VDE Baggers held a second fundraiser for the team heading to the World Float Championships in Slovenia later this month. They travelled to Muckno for the match, but unfortunately found that the majority of the roach in the lake had also travelled… off to the margins to spawn… That meant there were slim pickings left for the anglers and any angler that could bag a bream or hybrid would be in the placings.
A nice bream made the difference for AAron
So it turned out: Aaron Nabc Hutchmann netted a handy bream to add to his 15 roach, giving him 3kg. Grzegorz Bojczewski came in second, with a couple of hybrids helping him to 2.3kg, and Mark Alcock had a couple of nice skimmers, pushing him into third place.
Best of luck to all anglers heading to the World Champs in a few weeks!
Mick Flanagan of Midland Angling & Shooting has been kept off the lough this week with the blustery winds, but he took the opportunity to try something different on the River Inny, and here’s how he got on…
The blustery wind is back so I took shelter on the River Inny and had some sport fishing surface lures. It’s very low and weedy but I got few pike and missed a lot on the small frog and duck lure. Saying this the best fish I struck into was a trout! We were in contact for only a few seconds but I could see the Golden Brown flash and big fan tail as he rolled over on the surface. Ah well, that’s fishing! But I am doing this stretch again quite soon, with small dead baits whipped across the gaps between weed beds.

John Fleming, who skippers the Brazen Hussy II charter boat in Galway Bay, has had a good few trips lately fishing for white fish on the many reefs around the bay, as well as kicking off the shark season.
The first day on the sharks saw two fish brought to the boat, both porbeagle shark

Success!
Reef fishing has also been excellent. Despite windy conditions making for uncomfortable steaming, or keeping them to inshore reefs, the fishing has been really good with lots of pollack, pouting, ling, wrasse and gurnards feeding hard and taking baits.

David Norman reports from West Cork, and East Cork too…
I haven’t done many Bass trips so far this year and despite the hundreds of them I’ve caught over the years it still blows me away to see these beautiful creatures up close and personal, as with so many things in life, photos really can’t do them justice.
I worked pretty hard for the few fish of various sizes I got in beautiful weather last week before the low pressure system arrived and made it unsuitable for kayak fishing.
Looking forward to getting back out as soon as it clears…
Next up was Gavin Fitzmaurice who was out with me for 2 days at the weekend. Day 1 we managed to get some ideal conditions for his first ever kayak fishing trip and found some quality fish including this beautiful Ballan Wrasse, estimated at 4lbs+ that attacked a custom clear/glitter Pirate Lures Corsair Baitfish lure.
Day 2 we headed over to Richie Ryan in Cork Harbour for some boat/fly action. Having never handled a fly rod before and after some expert instruction from Richie, Gavin was on fire with 3 or 4 fish to the boat before I’d got my first and the action continued apace for the next 3 hrs despite the strong Northerly breeze. He even managed what we think was a surprise Scorpion Fish on the fly.
David has been lure then fly fishing since the mid noughties with some of the best guides and anglers in Ireland and abroad.
Kayak fishing by lure & fly now takes him and his guiding guests beyond the shore to target Pollock, Bass or Wrasse with the chance of other species such as Codling, Coalfish, Mackerel or Garfish.
Shore fishing at night is also a very special experience.
Why not try fishing from the first licensed saltwater fly-fishing boat in Ireland in the second largest natural harbour in the world? Your guide, Commander Richie Ryan Retd. , has built up a huge knowledge of bass fishing, over the last 30 years.
Notes:Â With a purpose built boat he is insured to carry up to 3 anglers. Bass and pollock on the fly are the main target species.
Young and old are welcome and if you have no knowledge of fly-fishing, other methods are available. Richie has been responsible for a vast number of clients catching that elusive first ever bass.
Senan Stanley and Daniel Nesbitt were out at the weekend chasing toothy predators on one of Ireland big and wild loughs, but this time they got more than they bargained for…
Wow is all I can say. What an outrageous days fishing that was! An early start meant Daniel and myself were heading on a roadtrip to a different lake. We made a plan the night before to go for all 3 predators Trout, Pike and Perch.
Casting lures for trout produced 3 trout, two brownies and a beastly ferox trout on light spinning tackle. The ferox did its best to shake the hooks doing at least 5 backflips during the battle. Pure heart in the mouth time!!! Unreal craic though.
Then we Switched focus to perch. We finished with 130 perch with the best going 35cm, and the average was 30cm!
Then we had to get the pike. Twenty pike later we called it quits with the 5 best going 111cm, 100cm, 98cm, 98cm, 95cm!

Galway Bay Sea Angling Club held the latest leg of their Master Angler league on Whitestrand beach, near Louisburgh, Co. Mayo recently. Club PRO Tom Keal has a report on how it went:
For the third leg of the Master Angler, we travelled North to Mayo. Whitestrand was the chosen venue for the day, and it was the first time many of our anglers had been fishing there.
The first lines were cast in at 11am, all with the hope of a few fish early in the match. Tom Keal picked up from where he left off at Leg 2 and landed a decent 15cm weaver fish. However, since weavers must be recorded as undersized, it only counted for 5 points.
Soon after, Brian Reidy got going by landing a turbot. A latecomer to the day’s party, Chris Hartnett plucked a bass from the surf to put him in the top spot.
A nice surf bass for Chris Hartnett. Love the hat Chris!
Ailbhe Hartnett, the leading junior of the Master Angler, once again worked tirelessly and was rewarded with a turbot.
A turbot for Ailbhe
Before the high tide, Kevin O’Hara made his presence known by getting the largest flounder of the day, which set up a tight second half of the match.
A nice flounder for Kevin
The bites dropped off at high tide, allowing the members to catch up, take in the view and learn from each other by sharing tips and info about local marks. Planning for our club BBQ was also discussed, along with our species hunt and the possibility of a camping trip.
Whitestrand
The weed became an issue across the beach after high tide. The abundance of seaweed was blown in by the fresh onshore breeze. However, fishing through this proved fruitful as Brian landed another turbot, and Ailbhe caught a nice-sized flounder. Tom also got in on the action, landed a small turbot, and then got a double shot of two good turbot to throw him up the leaderboard.
Two fine turbot for Tom
On the last cast of the match, Tom Keal and Kevin O’Hara secured their 1st and 2nd place positions with one final fish each.
It was good to see all anglers getting in on the action and, for many, to get a new venue under their belt.

30 June: We fished a knock up on Silvergrove today. There were 8 fishing so we decided to have 2 sections, 4 to the left and 4 to the right of the carpark. There were not as many fish in evidence as compared to last week’s Tulla match but all the same it was tight match with small skimmers showing in a few of the pegs.
The overall winner was Ian.
1 to 4 section Tomas
5 to 8 section Anthony
