The Lure Fishing Podcast – Bass Fishing from Afloat with Pat Gahan

The Lure Fishing Podcast is back after a little break and host Cormac Walsh has some fantastic guests lined up for the next run of episodes. First up is Pat Gahan – a vastly experienced boat angler based out of Kilmore Quay in Wexford.

Pat has been lure fishing for bass from the boat for many years now and in this podcast he shares a lot of the vast knowledge and experience he has built up during that time.

Pat is a great guy full of information and his way of communicating makes him really interesting to listen to

He also has massive experience fishing in Norway where he has made at least ten trips targeting huge Cod, Coalies, Pollack and much more on the lures. This is worthy of a podcast itself which will be coming very soon too.

Fly Tying Tutorial: A Traditional Claret Dabbler for Irish Loughs with Jackie Mahon and Tom Sullivan

In this video, Jackie Mahon and Tom Sullivan go for a deep dive into tying a traditional Claret Dabbler. This is a fly that is very effective on Irish Loughs like Lough Corrib, Mask, Melvin, Arrow and Sheelin. This one is tied in a size 10, but you can tie them in a range of sizes to suit wherever you’re fishing. Throughout the video, they discuss all the key features to a Dabbler, and why they choose the materials they do. Mallard or Pheasant for the tail? How many wraps of hackle at the head? These are important questions to address if you want to tie a perfect Dabbler.

For more details about the materials and hooks used see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kzziq0Rq-Bk

Ireland on the Fly Podcast- latest episode – The rise of salmon farming & the decline of wild salmon and sea trout in Ireland

Last year, Ireland on the Fly covered the impact of salmon farming on the famous Loch Maree in Scotland, but what about its impact on the wild salmon and sea trout here in Ireland and its damaging ecological effects?

For this week’s episode, Daire and Tom are joined by John Murphy from Salmon Watch Ireland, to discuss the work the organisation does as well as some recent cases they have been fighting.

Nice ling and some chunky pollack for Killybegs Fishing Trips

Killybegs Fishing Trips gave tuna fishing a break recently and went for some mixed fishing instead…with great success as their reports suggest. Anglers aboard the MV Fiona Tee enjoyed some great fishing for ling, cod and pollack over the past few days in Donegal Bay.

However, for the few remaining days of the tuna season the focus will be again on bluefin for the last time this year.

Good late season sport in Galway Bay

Two fine pollack

Skipper John Fleming was out and about again last week with a crew who travelled from Kildare. Fishing was very slow to start, and John not being afraid to burn a bit of diesel, moved marks several times to try and put the lads over good fishing, with nothing consistent showing.

Pollack

After a move to a deeper mark, it all clicked. Some very nice pollack came over the rail for everyone, with some nice gurnard and wrasse too, and plenty of scad feeding as well.

A gurnard at the end of the rainbow!
