3 salmon reported for the week on club waters by club members, 2 weighing 5lbs each and the 3rd was 6lbs. Water levels were fluctuating.
INNISCARRA FISHERY
3 salmon for the week. A Limerick angler had 2, weighing 4lbs and 11.5lbs and local angler Sean Cremin had a salmon of 4.5lbs. All fish were caught on shrimp.
There was plenty of rain across northern and eastern coastal counties but elsewhere it was relatively dry and sunny, if still a bit cooler than expected for June. This has made for pretty inconsistent fishing, with results varying in many places from day to day. That said there were a few parts of the country that saw consistently good results, particularly for coarse, trout, charter boat and shore anglers…
18lb salmon from the Nore for Ger #CPRsavesfish
Bright sunshine, heavy showers, cold northerly wind and fluctuating water levels made conditions very tough on the Moy for the past week. However, 285 salmon were reported caught with a big percentage of them grilse. The Erriff and Delphi Fishery enjoyed good fishing as the rain there brought much needed water. Anglers at Costello and Fermoyle reported good numbers of salmon and sea trout in the system and fish were taking well as the waters levels dropped there. Things were looking up on the Owenmore Fishery at the weekend but the wind changed and so did the luck of the fishermen. On the Munster Blackwater there was some great fishing last week but as the levels on the river continued to drop the fishing petered out. Once again there were a few salmon from the Ilen and there was a long wait for anglers on the Nore to hit it right again this season, but that time arrived at the weekend and some great fish to 18lb were caught and released.
Andrew Flitcroft of Trout & Salmon with his Corrib PB, a fine trout of 5lbs 4oz
The Nore is also seeing some great trout fishing recently. Thankfully the trout fishing is not as fickle as the salmon fishing, though they probably lie side by side in many pools. The word from Lough Corrib is that fishing is much improved with good catches on Mayfly and Caenis.
There has been some super bream fishing in Cavan
All our coarse reports are from the top half of the country this week. There has been some great bream fishing reported, both in festivals and from pleasure anglers. What’s great to see is the spread of locations with good bream reports coming in from Cavan, Longford and Monaghan. Some super tench catches were also reported.
Lough Derg pike
Just one pike report in this week, from Lough Derg. German anglers on a guided fishing holiday had some very enjoyable fishing where they caught some hard fighting fish to 90cm.
Connor O’Reilly’s big Porbeagle was around 7 feet long
On the subject of hard fighting fish a huge porbeagle shark of around 7 feet and estimated to weigh 300lb was caught by an angler on the Silver Dawn out of Courtmacsherry on Tuesday. This huge fish is Catch of the Week. A few good sharks were caught on the same day and fishing in the area is going well at the moment. Charter boat anglers are also getting good fishing at Wicklow where 70 specimens were recorded in the last few weeks. Heading to the top of the country and up in Downings it was a similar story with good reports from wreck and reef. Specimen spurdog and tub gurnard have been landed here too. Out on the west coast there was good fishing on Killala Bay
And now the weather…
Saturday will be warm and dry, temperatures will range 15 to 20C, in moderate southeast breezes. It will be mildest inland away from south and east facing coasts. There will be a locally damp start to Sunday. Heavy thundery rain in the south will slowly push northwards through the day. Spot flooding is likely. Feeling humid, with highs of 15 to 20C, all in a moderate easterly breezes. It will become very warm and increasingly humid well into next week with temperatures widely rising into the 20s. Some thundery rain is possible too though with low pressure lining up close to the Bay of Biscay. Hmmmmm… I’m going fishing, but it looks like I’ll have the rain gear and the the sun block on.
Michael McVeigh reports from Downings, County Donegal:
Good fishing this week for our Dutch guests, spurdog were turning up in good numbers with specimens up to 112cm recorded. We’ve also had reasonable numbers of tope and our second good common skate of the season – a fine fish of 135lbs or so.

Summer rambling on the shore and inhaling the great outdoors is what keeps us going throughout the year. Another great session with a nice mixture of ground in front having peaks and kelp on one side and sand on the other which gives a variety of target species.
Some lovely spotted rays and thornbacks among the flatties on the sand for Johnny and Gavin and conger eels patrolling the dark rocks. These fish took baits but a few casts with the lure rod firing out soft plastics to slowly retrieve tempted a lovely pollack over 7lb on the scales for Gavin. Great fishing on a very enjoyable day out.
With the season in full swing Kit Dunne reports on a massive 70 Irish Specimen Fish recorded for May and June. The bulk of the fish are smooth hounds with many in double figures and the best so far reaching 17.5lb in weight.
Eamonn Power with his 106cm, 12.5lb. Specimen Smooth Hound.
The tope fishing has also begun, with a lot of southerly winds the best grounds were inaccessible for a short time; however, in recent trips plenty of tope have been landed. German visitor Mike Wheeler recorded the best tope to date with his 41lb, 162cm fish. Bullhuss, thornback ray & homelyn ray are also on the catch list.

Inshore, the species are also coming in with plenty of codling, dab, pollock, coalie, gurnard, a few conger and some small ling. The elusive black bream hasn’t shown up yet, however, conditions haven’t really suited so far.

Richard Caplice reports that the roach are on the way as bream show in some numbers on Lough Muckno in the Irish Feeder-masters qualifier…
Mariusz Kilian was the winner with a great catch of bream and hybrids
16 June: Our Irish Feeder-masters qualifier event on Lough Muckno today saw the capped limit of 50 anglers surpassed but for this qualifier all entries are accepted.
Five sections, with the winner of each going through to the final were in use and with a quality field competition was fierce and extremely tight on each of the sections.
Mariusz Killian prevailed following a tough struggle on next peg with home favorite Darren Fairhurst. With Darren bringing Almost 15 kg to the net he had to feel confident only to be outdone by the rampant Mariusz who finished with a fine Weight of just under 19 kgs of prime Bream from Black Island 156.
All sections fished well despite the influx of much bigger Roach happening slowly due to fresh and high water slowing their return, which is expected to peak this week.
Bream and large hybrids of a beautiful condition showed on all sections, so all augers well for our feeder festival starting tomorrow.
Please now all anglers note that the next feeder masters qualifier is capped at 50 anglers and is set for 20th July 2019.
Please book on early to avoid dissapointment.

Feeder festival starts tomorrow for 5 days so we are hoping for good weather and great fishing.
A party of anglers from Co Sligo set out from Killala Harbour for a day’s fishing. Weather was fine, an overcast sky paired with light southerly winds. On their first drift for mackerel none were caught so the skipper Donal Kennedy decided to move out to deeper waters and the anglers were not disappointed. On a drift over rocky ground, mackerel, pollack, coalfish and ling were caught. After a number of drifts where some fine pollack were caught it was time to return to Harbour .
The day passed very quick. All returned safely well pleased with their days fishing.

Bright sunshine, heavy showers, cold northerly wind and fluctuating water levels made conditions very tough for the past week. However, 285 salmon were reported caught with a big percentage of them grilse. This puts the total catch to date on par with 2018.

On the Weir Pool, John McKinley, Athlone, had a 3.75 lbs. grilse on fly.
