John Mc Laughlin from the Lough Swilly Angling Centre informs us:

I am pleased to report that the main run of spring Salmon is now underway in the Lackagh system.
There has only been light to moderate angling pressure up until the last 2 or 3 weeks.
One very encouraging thing to report is the big number of well mended kelts, landed and released again on their second return journey back out to sea.

Good water and into a good springer on the Lackagh
Good water and into a good springer on the Lackagh

This should be a good indication of a very good run of fish making it to the spawning beds last autumn and winter.
Creeslough Angling Club member, Tony Mc Gilloway landed the first fresh fish of the season in the last week of March on the spinner. The fish was estimated at 9 lbs. Tony also landed another second fish on Sunday the 29th of March on the spinner, estimated at 12 lbs.
I have also had unconfirmed of 2 other fish by a day ticket angler on Tuesday, March 31st.
There were no other catch reports until Saturday last when Eunan Quinn landed a fine fresh fish of 9lbs on a badger tube fly from the Weir pool.
Patrick Schoales got in on the act also with a beauty of 10 lbs on Tuesday. The fish fell to a Garry Dog tube fly in the Garden pool.
At the time of writing, the Lackagh is at a great height for the fly and plenty of fish have been seen running through to Glen Lough.
Permits for the Lackagh are available from the IFI on 086 8182948 or 087 2871512
