A very cold, grey, wet and breezy winters day on Sunday the second of December saw another heat of the Lough Muckno Winter League being held on a number of sections on Black/Yellow Island. This was one of four events being held today on Lough Muckno, on the newly developed Concra Wood, Black/Yellow Island and White Islands. A total of thirty two anglers fished this coarse match event and all anglers decided that feeder tactics would produce best results. Many anglers fished at 45 to 60 turns with light terminal tackle, down to size 16 hooks being the choice for many. Bites were hard won and not the easiest to detect in the tough & challenging conditions. Most pegs caught and best catches were in and around 15 to 18 fish with catches consisting of roach and hybrids with an occasional bream thrown in. Best weights were between 3.5kgs and 4.4kgs. The results of the event are as follows

  1. Andy Chapman   4kg 44og
  2. Rory O’Neill          3kg 720g
  3. Jim McAlastair    3kg 690g
  4. Paul Kelly               3kg 560g

Section winners were Dave Wursnip, Gavin Walsh and Seamus Winters. The prize-giving was held immediately afterwards in the Old Coach Inn in Castleblayney.
