Luke Aston has certainly proved over the years that if someone really wants to get stuck into a big fish that his boat is the one to choose. Every season his anglers manage to produce a couple of six-gill sharks, including one over 1000lb in 2009. Just yesterday luck angler Dentlif Geeling was delighted to be the guy who hooked into Luke’s first six-gill of the season. Earlier in the week Luke’s crew had enjoyed good blue shark fishing with 5 blues taken while pollack fishing. But when the shark rod gave a nod on his sixgill mark he couldn’t have hoped for a better result.
After an exhausting struggle Dentlif brought the enormous shark to the side of the boat where it was measured at 3.4m and estimated to weigh 350kg – that’s about 770lb for anyone attempting the mental math. With a fish this big caught and released it’s our clear Catch of the Week winner.
