Lindsey Clarke reports that even Lough Melvin should start to fish better as water levels rise…

Fishing on the Lough last week was hard work going by the reports of catches. The lough fished better at the weekend however. There were two competitions held over the weekend and some of the competitors came in with some good catches. On Saturday, The Kinlough Anglers held their end of season competition fished out of Breffni Pier. This was well attended with 32 boats setting off. The competition was won by Kevin Bradley with 4 fish. In second place was Darryl Grimason with 3 fish. In 3rd was Hugo Kilkenny with 3 fish. In 4th place was Darren Maguire with 2 fish and in 5th place was Joe Gallagher with 2 fish. The big barbecue in the evening went well and was well attended by locals. All proceeds from this competition go to charity and the club would also like to thank Jackie Mahon of Abbey Foods for sponsoring/providing all the meat for the wonderful barbecue.

On Sunday the Seamus Doherty Memorial Cup competition was held. This was fished out of the Garrison Anglers clubhouse & jetty. The competition was well attended and the fishing fairly good. The competition was won by Michael Pollan and partner with a good catch of 6 trout to 2½lb.
