Christy Crotty had a good day’s fishing on Saturday March 2nd in Knockaderry when he caught a fine overwintered Rainbow Trout. He estimates it weighed 6lbs and was part of a bag of 6 trout with two more overwintered fish weighing four pounds. All were in excellent condition and returned to fight another day. Despite the freezing cold wind, the brave caught fish. If we have a warm calm day, small black buzzers will hatch and this will bring the overwintered fish on the feed. The freshly stocked fish are taking any fly that comes into their swim path. They are in pristine condition and give a great fight. Read Michael Drinan’s article about Carrigavantry and Knockaderry lakes in this month’s Irish Angler and take on board his advice and use 8 lbs. casts.
