Billy Downes reports that as of Saturday 5th July the water fallen back to 6 inches on the gauge at Johnston’s and the Laune is need of some good rain. Anglers locally are of the opinion that salmon ‘lie doggo’ when the water is too warm. Water temperatures have reached into the 20’s during late June.
Only a few weeks ago we were saying that the fishing was bad because of low temperatures . My own view is that salmon are scarce in the system and will remain so till we get some good rain with the nets off.
There are a few fresh sea trout and grilse running the river when the nets are off.

Prospects: It can only get better – even allowing for the draft nets being in operation, the return to anglers for this past week was not great.
