Clear water and south westerly winds left conditions ideal yesterday evening for a night sortie under the guidance of Jim Hendrick. I have not fished at night for a long time and getting there before dark helps with the layout of the location. The surface lure clattered across the surface several times without success. Then the moon kindly dropped behind a bank of dark cloud and like the turning of a dimmer switch the darkness enveloped the sky. This must have stirred this beautiful fish into action and triggered a violent, smashing take on the third tap of the lure. Surface lures are great at the best of times but when that rod wrenching take comes in the dark its even better. After a fight worthy of such and adversary this majestic fish was then returned safely back to the sea to fight another day.
