Fishery manager Nigel Rush reports that the grilse run appears to be finally underway at Kylemore over the last few days. Good water has encouraged fish to run, and anglers are encountering grilse, some to very good size. Over the last few weeks the fishery was averaging 8 fish a week with little rod effort, but over the 9 days to the 20th they had 17 fish for just 21 rod-days, and numbers for the season are so far well up on last year.

Geoffrey Fitzjohn had a good day on Tuesday, landing 3 fish through the Upper and Middle River, lost 3 and turned as many again. This was followed yesterday by Neil Spellacy, who landed 3 fish, including 2 of 7lbs and a fish of 4lbs, and lost another fish, all from the Middle River beat. Two fish were released and one kept as it was a stray ranched fish from another river.

I stopped at the river yesterday and saw perfect water levels, so with grilse running it looks like the place to be. To book fishing, contact Nigel at 087 9580702.
