Tommy McCormack Memorial Cup.
Lough Owel Trout Preservation Association hosted their last fly-fishing competition of the 2015 season last Sunday September 6th with the main prize on the day the Clonhugh Cup. Also on the last competition day the Tommy McCormack Memorial Cup is up for grabs. This Cup is presented to the L.O.T.P.A. member who produced the best gross weight of fish during the trout competition season, and this year Mullingar Angler Brendan Murray was crowned top Lough Owel angler of 2015.Brendan had a fantastic season on Owel and boated trout in all five fly fishing competition on Owel.In total Brendan weighed in 12.270kg of trout to win the Tommy McCormack Memorial Cup.Prenentation took place at the Tullaghan Angling Center last Sunday evening, and Mick McCormack son of the late Tommy presented Brendan with his prizes.
Clonhugh Cup goes to Tallaght.
As mentioned above Lough Owel anglers were out in force last Sunday September 6th, and competed for the Clonhugh Cup. It’s the official winding down of trout competition on Owel, and there was a great turn out of compeditors. Fishing was from 11am-7pm, and presentation and light refreshments took place at Tullaghan Angling Center. Plenty of trout were presented at the 7pm weigh-in and many anglers produced their 3 fish bag limit. On the day Noel Farrer of Tallaght in Dublin produced the winning trout and it rattled the scales at 1.225kg. Well known Mullingar angler Andy Boyle finished 2nd with another fine trout of 1.205kg, and Ollie Maheady also Mullingar 3rd with 1.130kg.The junior section was won by James Maheady with a trout of 1.105kg.Andy Boyle of L.O.T.P.A. thanked all who supported the associations competitions in 2015, and also a big thanks to those who provided the light refreshments. Its not the end of the competition scene on Owel, and on Sunday October 11th the end of season competition takes place.
