South Shore Sea Angling Club held the last leg of their League at Ennerielly recently. Paul Mason reports…

12 December: From early during the week the weather for our last South Shore Competition wasn’t looking good. With north east winds and snow on the menu it was always going to be tough. Arklow beach in Wicklow was the desired fishing venue as in Christmas competitions past. That notion was dispelled on inspection of Arklow there was not much beach left because of big seas so a different venue was chosen. Ennerielly south was the lucky beach with the auld farts pegs straight out from the car park and the rest of the pegs around the rocks.

Ruairi Coleman, the flounder wizard, on peg 30 charmed 19 fish out of a wicked sea to consolidate his lead in the Master Angler league table. This win crowned Ruairi the 2017 South Shore SAC Master Angler wrestling the coveted trophy from the long term holders, Eamonn Bermingham and Thomas Keogh who between them have lifted the trophy more times than I can remember.

Ruairi will represent South Shore SAC in next year Master Angler Competition in Wicklow along with four other club members. Well done Ruairi there was some great results winning two and finishing high in the other legs.

South Shore SAC is going from strength to strength with more quality anglers coming to join our club this is all down to the hard work that goes on in the background. We don’t have a committee as such everyone mucks in and delivers.

Special mention must go to the hard working Thomas Keogh [Great White] who seems to use Duracell batteries and never stops , also Peter Flahive for his quick results return. This is a real feature in the club as anglers like to see results soon after the competitions. Our Secretary Frank Baxter who works quietly in the back ground doing the unseen chores.

As you all may know by now South Shore SAC won the club of the year and received a well deserved trophy from the Leinster central Committee it shows we are doing something right.

I would like to wish all club members and their families a happy Christmas and a successful new year.
A special mention must go to Keith Stafford everyone’s best friend who was a ray of sunshine on an otherwise gloomy day. Cold oxtail soup couldn’t cool your warm heart….
